Week 77 I spy in the temple waiting room...

Week 77

So we had our ward temple trip...I feel like I have been there like 10 times in the past week. But we waited outside with Jon and his kids because Aylene went inside to do baptisms for the dead. And the kids were getting super rowdy...so we whipped out some fun games while we were chilling there. We played 'I spy' and they had to go touch the thing that I was "I spying..." But they had to WALK.  I said if they ran they were out. Best one was when I told them to go touch the temple presidents nose...hahaha it was a good time :) almost went crazy...I watched so many mormon messages I can tell ya all of the good ones...

Dear Family and Friends,

Hello everyone. Hope you all had a good week. This week has been so awesome, wasn't as many things to do and places to be....just a lot of feel good moments.  I am just really grateful to be in the Philippines and meeting fun people and all that. It's really sooo fun and time just goes by too fast. I can't believe I am back in the internet shop again!  We had an awesome week of teaching and getting our investigators ready for baptism.

One moment I really loved this week was when we had our ward temple day. Its really cool to see Recent Converts experience their first trip to the temple. And Aylene, Jon's wife, went to the temple for the first time! She did baptisms for the dead and was baptized for her mom. It was such a cool experience for her! And we finished the lessons and Jon for sure will be baptized this Saturday...we are so pumped for him!  He is so prepared and so ready. It should be an awesome day!

So I actually did my last session in the Manila temple this week...super bitter sweet moment.  Lots of  feelings of gratitude to have been able to serve in such an awesome place :)

Last session at Manila temple
Good bye Manila Temple--you've been good to me!

Jessica wasn't able to come to church this week...sadly she won't get baptized this Saturday. But we are still pumped for her baptism at a later date!  Just sad I won't be able to see it. She is doing so good though!

We also have found some awesome people this week. One of them was a sweet Sister Emma...also came to church this week. She is like 70 haha.  We picked her up for church and everything. She's pretty spry for her age.

Anyway...we really are just teaching and preaching away. So pumped everyday to wake up and teach the gospel.  We had a couple of awesome FHE's this week...spiritual thoughts and the food is always SO good.

More FHE this week
Once again...another FHE this week :)

Finish off with a spiritual note...we had a cool FHE thought last night on Prophets. We went around the room and asked everyone to share their favorite scripture prophet and then a message from conference they liked. It was really cool to see that the messages of the prophet are of course put in different contexts and time periods...but the overall messages that we learn from the prophets are pretty timeless.  So awesome!

Love you guys! I am on to my last week as a missionary!  Can't believe it!  have a good week everyone :)

Love,

Week 76 KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Week 76

So I gave a talk in church last Sunday--my LAST talk! Sooo weird :) And it was about 'Why is it important to gain spiritual knowledge and develop spiritual skills?' I was ALL over that :) That was a really fun experience this week. I told the Grullo family they needed to come early and sit on the front row so I had my support group--they didn't do half bad. They only missed 2 minutes of it ;) but anyway...good experience with that this week.

Dear Fam and Frenz,

Hey everyone :) I feel like I literally ran a marathon this week my goodness.  We had so much to do and places to be--but it was a week enjoyed and one to be remembered. I still am firm that my mission weeks have been the most unpredictable thing ever--you plan, study, teach...but in the end you honestly have NO idea what is going to happen.  It makes life fun and trust in Heavenly Father.  I'm down to 2 weeks...where does the time even go haha...But anyway on to our week!

We had a service project on Tuesday. We cleaned cute Sister Rio's house---she had a stroke a few years ago and her husband is getting old so our district volunteered to clean their house.  This was maybe the scariest house I have ever been into...cockroaches, mice, rats, spiders--you name it and it was there. I only screamed twice. One was when they moved a big piece of wood and out came like 100 cockroaches, other time was when a rat ran across Sister Cudo's foot. Other than that, I was super tough. But to be honest, its so fun to do service projects--we truly had so much fun :) Always blessed to be apart of those.

We were actually able to go to the temple twice this week haha. We were chatting with some of our part member sisters at church and they said they were going to be endowed on Saturday but that they needed an escort. So we told them we could be their escorts! It was so awesome :) We walked in with them and were with them all day Saturday doing that. Brought me back to when I went through the temple for my first time...such a sweet spirit. And as we were helping the sisters through the endowment...it really was so special. Grateful I was able to do that. Then we went to the temple as a zone earlier today. Temples are definitely one of the best ways to spend your time.

We also had Zone Conference this week...one takeaway I had was when President Fermanis was talking to us about how "routine is the enemy." He talked about how often times we "get busy with being busy" and I actually found that so true. We shouldn't get caught up in studies, proselyting so much that it becomes our busy...but we need to work on being in the moment and treating everyday differently. Loved that thought. So we have been trying out some new schedule things in the spirit of Zone Conference. We tried it a couple days this week proselyting...also President added to our proselyting hours. I was pumped about it. We've been having fun with that.

President Fermanis--haha like what the heck does that even mean on the board?

Also had a training meeting this week...Loved when we had a section of that for just the trainers. And we talked a lot about how God has "foreknowledge" but doesn't have our whole life mapped out, but he knows us so well that he knows what we are going to choose--that was super awesome!

Our investigators are doing awesome :) We found some newbies and Jon and Jessica are getting ready for their baptism on November 25th.  We had a way fun FHE on Saturday with some of our RC's and investigators. We played games and had a lesson about charity. We have such cool investigators.

Anyway...literally didn't breathe for the whole week but I truly love this work. Feel SO SO blessed right now :) missionary work is so awesome.

Love,
Sister Zarbock

Week 75 The FHE hardships...

Week 75

So we had a plan to have FHE at one of our investigators house so we told the elders to go buy pizza...but then last minute our investigator cancelled...haha so there we were with a large pizza, melting ice cream, and soda....but no place to have an FHE. After seriously 5 trial and errors...we ended up at Lanie and Rose Ann's house. They rescued us and we had a way fun night.  We showed up their door and said, "Hey we have pizza, drinks, and icecream...but no place to eat it...can you help us...."  They probably thought we were so weird. NONETHELESS...the pizza was awesome.

Our FHE mishap turned out to be soooo fun!
Ummmmm....so that's me with the sunburn

Dear Family and Friends,

This week was so busy and I can't believe November is already here...marks the last month of me being a missionary. But i didn't have time to think about it tons cause we had a lot going on this week.  Which is always good...busier is always better I think. We had a lot of awesome things happen this week.  I think it was one of my favorite Sundays of my mission yesterday.  We picked up some of our investigators and I sat by an 85 year old member at church...he told me he was grateful we picked him up for church. Made me smile :) The little moments kill me.... so grateful to be right where I am at.

On to the week.....

Jon is doing AWESOME...he hasn't smoked for 2 days! We gave him a huge bag of candy and he said he has almost finished it because he said if he is always chewing something, then the desire to smoke goes away.  We had some awesome lessons with him this week. He really loves opening the scriptures in lessons..this week we read Alma 5 and 3 Nephi 9....and the Priesthood have really been stepping up to help him out and support him. Sometimes that's all anyone needs.  I told him we are gonna get him baptized before I leave and he said he really wants to be baptized by the end of this month. So throw up some prayers for Jon. He really is so great. Just a really good guy that just wants to be with his wife and kids forever.

Jessica is also doing awesome...she came to church yesterday and I have been passing down dresses to her...she looks so cute at church.  Its so fun cause it feels like we are more friends with her than her missionaries. We love her to death...we taught her the law of chastity this week. And that was super special for me actually because we told her that we will have eternal families some day. Its really cool teaching someone my same age and kinda at my same part in life.  It was a sweet moment. Then there was the moment I forgot we were fasting and they fed us...yeahhhh I'd thought I'd learn something by now... her baptism is still for November 25th.

Jimmy is doing good...his anullment for his marriage won't be issued until January. So we are just finishing up his teaching so he can get baptized some time in January. He is such a cool guy.

We did some fun FHE this weeks...what's so awesome is when members find out that a missionary is going home...all of the members just want to have you at their house so we have a lot of FHE's planned for the next few weeks...we are excited!  Love the members here...they are all so nice!

We are seeing a lot of tender mercies in our area...with our progressing investigators and some new people we found this week....so grateful to go out to work everyday.  Being a missionary is so awesome.

Finish on a spiritual note....I loved this week that we applied Alma 5 to the Law of Chastity with Jessica because part of this commandment is to be able to evaluate our thoughts, actions, and words...make sure what we are doing is in harmony with God's standards. One questions Alma asks is, "have ye received his image in your coutenance?" And it was a really cool experience to be able to have that self reevaluation...no where near perfect but I can honestly say I have become closer to Christ than I have ever have over the last few months....its a good feeling :)

Anyway, have a good week everyone...I love you lots!

Love,
Sister Zarbock

Week 74 "I am gonna make some 'bros'"

Week 74

So I was sitting next to Jon Grullo during the 3rd hour and there was an announcement about an upcoming ward activity. They are going to a dragon fruit farm...so lame, its out of mission boundaries so we can't go.  But I asked Jon if he and his family were going. He said, "no, I am just going"...so I asked why wasn't his family going...and he said, "Aylene (his wife) is sending him alone so he can make friends in the ward". Haha I just laughed and laughed. I said, "So you are gonna make some 'bros'?" And he looked all confused. I told him that my brother has a friend group and they call themselves the "bros". So he was like...ooohhh...."Yes, I am gonna make some bros!" Hahaha sooo funny :)

Dear family and frenz,

Grateful to be emailing you this week. And shout out HAPPY HALLOWEEN :) Where did October even go??  Kids have been running around...I have run out of candy 3 times. But we had a great week.  Sister Cudo and I have been hitting the ground running in our area and its been super rewarding to find new investigators, revisit some past investigators...we have been having a lot of fun.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

We had some awesome activities for the week...one of them was our Ward Family Home Evening. We had a lot of fun with that. I always love FHE's with the ward.  Such a fun way to get all the ward pumped about missionary work!

Ward FHE
Jon Grullo and family at Ward FHE :)  Love this family!

One of the best things that happened this week was when we walked into the Grullo's house and Aylene and Jon were super smiley and were cooking...we were like what is going on...and then Jon told us that he FOUND A JOB. It was the coolest thing of my life. He will be a Pizza Hut delivery driver. Didn't like Pizza Hut all that much...but now its my favorite place in the world. It is so awesome cause he was super worried that he wouldn't find a job that didn't have work on Sunday....but his manager actually turns out is Mormon. God literally just opened up the windows of heaven for him.  So great. We are happy for their cute family.  He is still having Word of Wisdom problems...so we are still working on that with him. His baptismal date probably has to move back but...its just been awesome to be a part of his conversion.

Barruga family is doing so good.  Jessica..who went to church last week...actually accepted a baptismal date for November 25th. So we are getting her ready for that.  She literally is so awesome and basically teaches us the whole lesson. We love lessons with her cause she is always reading and listening.

With Jimmy...we are trying to figure out some technical things about his anullment plans...so we might have to push his baptism back a little bit.  We love the guy. He told us yesterday, "It just feels good to be at church." Of course we agreed!  It really just gives you that peace of conscience that you always need.

Shoot some prayers for our investigators....they need some extra love!

Finish on a spiritual note. My anak had to grab some ear drops from Sister Turner (the nurse) the other day and so we went to Sister Turner's apartment and got talking for a second. And we had a little scripture study and it was centered on the atonement.  Just grateful for my savior Jesus Christ. He really makes us the best versions of ourselves.  I have seen that in myself...that in small and simple ways he just makes me a little bit better every day.

Love you all,
Sister Zarbock
